Melton Lions Club Operation Safeplate Program

Melton Lions ran a successful Operation Safeplate day at Woodgrove Shopping Centre, and were encouraged to keeo their loved littlest loved ones safe in a vehicle.

Operation Safe Family 181x

Police set up various displays in the High Street shopping centre, offering crime prevention advice to members of the public.

There was an opportunity for one-way number plate screws to be fitted to cars while an accredited restraint fitter was on hand to install approved infant and child restraints in a wide variety of vehicles. He also checked that child restraints were installed correctly.

Parents of young children were encouraged to take advantage of the free child restraint fittings and checks, to ensure that their child had the correct restraint for their height and age and that it was correctly fitted to the vehicle.

It is incredibly important that children are correctly restrained, and the police are hopeful the service provided will have an impact on reducing the number of infants injured on Melton roads.

The operation came in the wake of warnings from police that number plate thefts have been prevelent in the City of Melton.

Criminals typically use the plates to steal petrol, evade freeway tolls and avoid road safety cameras.

The community can help police by replacing the standard one-way security screws. These act as a deterrent to thieves.

Melton Lions Club also provided a free BBQ in conjunction with the City of Melton, Victoria Police and Woodgrove Shopping Centre, with over 100 people dropping by to have something to eat.

There were numerous displays including Mr T Bear, and a Vintage Police Car.
